The Checkers are back on home ice and looking to carry their momentum with them from the road as they host the Bridgeport Islanders for a rare three-game set.

QUICK HITS

BUSY STRETCH

The Checkers recently wrapped up a six-game road trip that saw them traverse back-to-back three-in-three weekends. They went 3-2-1 in those contests, including a 2-1-0 mark in the most recent trio of contests.

AGAINST THE ISLES

Wednesday marks the fourth time the Checkers and Islanders have squared off, though it is the first time the tilt is in Charlotte. The Checkers have secured a point in each meeting, and after a 4-3 shootout loss in the first matchup, they have won each of the last two games by three goals each.

ALMIGHTY ATLANTIC

The Atlantic Division continues to be a melee from top to bottom. The Checkers currently hold the best record in the division over the last 10 games, and they have pulled themselves to within five points of Providence in second place and six points of the Atlantic-leading Bears. On the other side, Lehigh Valley and Springfield are deadlocked seven points behind the third-place Checkers - while Bridgeport and Hartford sit tied for the final playoff spot four points behind those two clubs.

The Checkers have 16 games remaining on their schedule, and 14 of them are against division rivals.

PESKY CHECKERS

Including their comeback win over Hartford in their most recent outing, the Checkers are now 8-15-3-0 when trailing after two periods this season. Those eight wins are tied for the most of any AHL team, while the eight instances of earning at least one standings point are the most in the league.

The Checkers have now scored multiple third-period goals in eight of the last 15 games.

CARLSSON LIGHTS IT UP

Lucas Carlsson set the franchise high mark for goals in a single season by a defenseman, and he hasn’t slowed down since. His two helpers in Sunday’s win gave him nine multi-point outings this season and brought his total this year to 36 points – a mark that is tied for seventh among AHL blue liners – while his 14 goals lead all defensemen across the league.

BERUBE COMES UP BIG

J-F Berube has come up with some big performances when called upon lately. The veteran netminder has won each of his last five starts and is 5-0-1 with a 2.07 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage since Jan. 15.
