The Checkers’ North Division trek rolls on as they visit the Rochester Americans for a pair of matchups over the weekend.

QUICK HITS

SHUTTING IT DOWN

Mack Guzda went a perfect 19-for-19 in his start on Wednesday, picking up his first career shutout. That also marked the second time a Charlotte netminder has earned a shutout over the last three games - with the other being Spencer Knight’s blanking of Cleveland on Saturday.

Those mark the only two clean sheets that the Checkers have this season - though they have held their opponents to two or fewer goals in nine of their last 14 contests.

MACK ATTACK

With his shutout on Wednesday, Guzda has now surrendered two or fewer goals in five of his last six starts - all of which ended in a win for the young netminder. Over those six contests, Guzda has recorded a .924 save percentage and has pushed into fourth place among all rookie netminders in goals-against average and save percentage this season.

FINDING A RHYTHM

The Checkers offense has come to life as of late, and recent upswings from Gerry Mayhew and Connor Bunnaman have played a key part in that. After posting 11 points in his first 32 games of the season, Mayhew has racked up seven in his last six contests - including an active three-game goal streak that has seen him pile up four tallies - while Bunnaman has notched five points in his last three games after totaling five points through his first 36.

NASH STAYS HOT

With another goal on Wednesday - extending his current streak to three games - Riley Nash continues to light up the scoresheet. The veteran forward now has 35 points in 36 games this season, and over the last two campaigns he has 53 points in 53 AHL games.

AGAINST THE AMERKS

This weekend wraps up the season series between the Checkers and Americans. The Amerks have had the upper hand in the previous two meetings, beating the Checkers 4-2 and 4-0 in Charlotte just prior to the holiday break.
