The Checkers’ extended road trip wraps up this weekend with a visit to Bridgeport on Friday followed by their first meeting with Springfield the next night.

QUICK HITS

SHOOTOUT SUCCESS

The Checkers dispatched the Wolf Pack in a shootout on Wednesday night - their second time beating Hartford in a shootout in less than a week - and are now 2-1 in shootouts this season. Of its 13 games played thus far, Charlotte has had six games go beyond regulation this season - holding a 4-2 record overall in those scenarios - and have the most points collected in overtime of any AHL club (10).

ROAD TESTED

After starting the season winless through their first four road contests, the Checkers have collected wins in two of their last three games away from home. They’ll be looking to keep that going against a Bridgeport squad that has lost just once through its first five home games this season.

These two teams have squared off once already this season at the start of November, when the Islanders escaped with a shootout victory.

LEVTCHI LIGHTS THE LAMP

Anton Levtchi came out of the gates hot this season, posting six points in his first three games. The Finnish forward has tapped back into that scoring touch as of late, notching three points over the last three games - as well as pulling off a highlight reel goal during Wednesday night’s shootout victory.

TIERNEY HAS THE TOUCH

Chris Tierney has enjoyed success driving the offense over the latest stretch of games. The veteran forward rattled off a three-game assist streak (posting four helpers across that run) that was snapped on Wednesday, but Tierney chipped in with the walk-off winner in the shootout to clinch two points for Charlotte.

THE ALMIGHTY ATLANTIC

With 16 points on the board through 13 games, the Checkers would be sitting in at least second place in any other division, but the Atlantic has emerged as the cream of the AHL crop thus far. The three teams above Charlotte in the division standings (Providence, Hershey and Bridgeport) all have points percentages above .700, a mark that only one other team in the AHL currently sits at. In fact, four of the top eight spots in the AHL standings belong to teams in the Atlantic Division.
