 Mecklenburg County Health Department “At a time when North Carolina public health advocates were looking forward to the effective date of the smoke-free restaurants and bars law, Mecklenburg County Health Department partnered with the Charlotte Checkers to educate people about the law. The health department received the presenting sponsorship of one of the Checkers’ games and participated in the opening ceremony. Among other things, the health department was given the opportunity to show smoke-free videos on the team’s video board, advertise on three live Checkers games radio broadcast and in the Game Day program. The health department was thrilled with the partnership as it helped in educating many people about the new law. The Checkers played a role in helping Mecklenburg County Health Department educate residents about the smoke-free air now available in North Carolina restaurants and bars.” Lovemore S.
