Bobby Sanguinetti had to wait two years between his first and second NHL recalls. It’s safe to say that things are speeding up.
Just one day after rejoining the Checkers after a two-game stint with the Carolina Hurricanes, the defenseman is back on his way to the NHL to play in Sunday’s game at Winnipeg. The move came after Carolina defenseman Jaroslav Spacek picked up a lower-body injury during the team’s Saturday victory in Minnesota and did not return.
With veteran Mathieu Roy already out of the Checkers’ lineup, the team will recall defenseman Ryan Donald from the ECHL’s Florida Everblades in time to face the Norfolk Admirals on Sunday afternoon. The game will conclude a weekend series between the two clubs, with the Admirals having defeated Charlotte by a 7-2 score on Friday for their 17th win in a row. Should they again top the Checkers on Sunday, they will set a new all-time AHL record for consecutive victories.
Sanguinetti, who did not miss a Checkers game during his previous recall to Carolina, assisted on both of his team’s goals on Friday to give him five points (1g, 4a) in his last two AHL games. He has 37 points (8g, 29a) in 50 games this season, making him the team’s second-highest scorer behind Chris Terry.
Donald, a 25-year-old in his second professional season, started the season on Charlotte’s roster but did not appear in a game until being recalled for a two-game stint in January. The Yale University product has 15 points (3g, 12a) in 43 games with Florida. |
