The fifth annual AutoTrader.com “Race Night” on Friday, Jan. 14 was part race-themed fun and part fundraiser as the Checkers raised money for Zach Bennett and his family, who plan to relocate to Charlotte from Albany, N.Y.
Proceeds from the Race Night jersey auction and a portion of ticket sales were given to the family to help off-set medical and relocation expenses.
Zach is a 10-year-old boy who suffers from neurofibromatosis (NF1). As former season ticket holders of the Albany River Rats, the Bennett family has established close relationships with many current Checkers players. When it was announced the River Rats were being bought and moved to Charlotte, the family decided it was time to follow.
