MATSUMOTO RECALLED BY CANES; DALPE, BOWMAN ASSIGNED

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte Checkers general manager and head coach Jeff Daniels announced today that forward Jon Matsumoto has been recalled to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes, in turn, have assigned forwards Zac Dalpe and Drayson Bowman.

Matsumoto, 24, earns his first recall by Carolina after recording nine points (3g, 6a) through 10 games. He currently sits tied for the Checkers’ lead in points with Zach Boychuk and Jerome Samson.

The Ottawa, Ontario native has played in 261 career AHL games, notching 84 goals and 98 assists (182 points). He was originally drafted in the third round (79th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers and was acquired by the Hurricanes in June for a seventh-round draft pick.

Bowman, 21, has appeared in eight games with the Hurricanes this season, collecting six penalty minutes. The left winger, who was raised in Littleton, Colo., split last season between Albany (AHL) and the Hurricanes. In nine NHL games with Carolina, he notched two points and in 56 games with the River Rats, he added 32 points (17g, 15a). He also tied for the Albany lead in playoff scoring with nine points (3g, 6a) in eight games. Bowman was Carolina’s third-round selection (72nd overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Dalpe, who turns 21 on Nov. 1, had one assist in seven games with the Hurricanes. The Paris, Ontario native led Ohio State University in scoring last season with 45 points (21g, 24a) in 39 games before making his pro debut with Albany. In nine games with the River Rats, he notched six goals and added an assist. He also chipped in with six points (3g, 3a) in eight playoff games. Dalpe was selected by the Hurricanes in the second round (45th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
