RALEIGH, N.C. - Carolina Hurricanes president and general manager Jim Rutherford announced today that the team has assigned forward Zach Boychuk to the Charlotte Checkers.
Boychuk, 20, split the 2009-10 campaign between the Hurricanes and Albany River Rats (AHL). He recorded three goals and six assists (9) in 31 NHL games with Carolina while tallying 15 goals and 21 assists (36 points) in 52 AHL games with Albany.
In 2008-09, the native of Airdrie, Alberta became the first Hurricanes player since Eric Staal in 2003 to make his NHL debut in the same year in which he was drafted.
Boychuk was a first-round pick (14th overall) of the Hurricanes in 2008 and won a gold medal at the World Junior Hockey Championships in 2008 and in 2009.
