RALEIGH, NC—The Carolina Hurricanes announced that they have signed former Checkers defenseman Bryan Rodney to a one-year, two-way contract.
Rodney, 26, played in 90 games with the ECHL Checkers from 2005-07, registering six goals and 40 assists.
The 6-foot, 195-pound blueliner split last season with the Hurricanes and Albany River Rats (AHL). In 22 games with Carolina, he notched one goal and 11 assists while adding seven goals and 28 assists in 54 AHL games with Albany.
Rodney appeared in the 2010 AHL All-Star Game and had four assists and a plus-7 rating for Albany in eight Calder Cup playoff games.
