Checkers players, staff members and Chubby made a significant impact in the Charlotte community in January, making school appearances and raising thousands of dollars for local non-profit organizations.
Race Night
The Checkers' seventh annual Race Night, presented by Hyundai, was held Friday, Jan. 25, and featured NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Regan Smith and Joey Logano along with dozens of other drivers. The Checkers auctioned off specialty jerseys after the game and more than $13,000 was raised for Hyundai Hope on Wheels, the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte and Saving Savannah.
Saving Savannah
The Checkers held a fundraiser leading up to the Jan. 25 game for the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation and $4,500 was raised through ticket sales and a portion of the jersey auction that evening.
School Visits
Checkers players and staffer Elle made several visits to local schools as part of the PowerPLAY program which encourages healthy and active living among elementary school children. On January 8, Checkers forwards Tim Wallace and Jeremy Welsh visited Weddington Elementary while defensemen Justin Krueger and Rasmus Rissanen dropped by Wesley Chapel Elementary.
Later in the month, Michal Jordan and Sean Dolan visited St. Patrick’s Elementary for a pep rally supporting their school spirit night with the Checkers.
