The Checkers received the following letter from a fan who attended last Saturday's game in Rockford:
We took my elderly mom to the 10/20/12 Rockford Icehogs vs. Checkers game. Early in the game, a stray puck cleared the glass and hit my mom on the chin. Quite an introduction to her second hockey game ever! She was checked out by medics and sent back to her seat. Luckily, the crowd........encouraged the person who got the puck to give it to my mom!
Later in the game, your goalie, Dan Ellis, was stretching during a break in the game. He lifted his helmet and got our attention. Hey pointed to his chin and asked if my mom was okay. We just wanted to let you know that it was very appreciated. The fact that he took the time for that was very classy and made a bad situation just a little better. I really wanted to send a quick note of thanks and to point out a gentleman's move that may have otherwise never been pointed out. If there is any way of passing this note on to Mr. Ellis, I would appreciate it.
Thank you again and good luck in your season!
Neil Waldschmidt
As one can tell from the picture, Mrs. Waldschmidt, aside from a bruise, is doing just fine after the incident. It also appears that Ellis, who made 35 saves to earn the 2-1 win in that game, will have a few new fans the next time the Checkers visit Rockford.
