When the Checkers take on Oklahoma City for back-to-back games starting Thursday, they’ll have to do so without veteran forward Andreas Nodl.

On Wednesday morning, just as the rest of the Checkers were departing for the trip, the Carolina Hurricanes recalled the 25-year-old ahead of their own game against the Ottawa Senators on Friday. Nodl, who originally joined Charlotte from Carolina after going through waivers on Jan. 17, attended Hurricanes practice on Wednesday morning.
Nodl, who spent the past two seasons in the NHL with Philadelphia and Carolina, could make his NHL season debut with the Hurricanes on Friday in place of Chad LaRose, who suffered an allergic reaction and missed practice on Tuesday. However, Checkers scoring leader Zach Boychuk also remains on the roster as an extra forward, having not played since the season opener on Jan. 19.
In five games for the Checkers, his first in the AHL since the end of the 2009-10 season, Nodl recorded four points (1g, 3a). All four came in his final four games after a scoreless debut hours after his assignment.
The transaction leaves Charlotte with the bare minimum of 12 forwards and six defensemen ahead of their two-game trip. On Tuesday, Daniels said that he did not plan to make any recalls from the ECHL as reinforcements, but that could potentially change with the loss of Nodl.
