Welsh put the Checkers on the board early, scoring just 3:58 into the first period, off a feed from Zach Boychuk. The lead was short lived, however, as Norfolk forward Peter Holland beat a screened Ellis to tie the game at 1-1.

The Checkers and Admirals continued to go back and forth with great chances at each end until the 14:14 mark of the period, when Dolan tipped in a Justin Faulk point shot past Norfolk goaltender Igor Bobkov to make it 2-1 Checkers.

Just 16 seconds later, Bowman beat Bobkov on the power play to put the Checkers up 3-1.

The second period began with each team playing very well defensively and not allowing many chances at either end. As the period continued, the Checkers began to press and went up by three when Nash tipped in a Sanguinetti point shot.

Norfolk replied quickly to make it 4-2 but with one minute remaining in the second period, Jordan picked up the puck off a turnover and fed Terry, who beat Bobkov between the legs to make it 5-2.

The Admirals threw all they could at Ellis in the third period, but the NHL veteran stopped 18 shots in the frame to preserve the victory, his fifth of the season.

With the win, the Checkers move to 12-3-2, and maintain sole possession of first place in the AHL.

The Checkers will now return to Charlotte Saturday, Nov. 24 (7 p.m.) and Sunday, Nov. 25 (3 p.m.) to host the Oklahoma City Barons.
