Charlotte Checkers Chubby's Buddies Program
The Chubby's Buddies program pairs a Charlotte Checkers player with a Special Olympics of North Carolina athlete for the entire season. During this time, athletes and players participate in a series of social events with the hopes of creating a lasting relationship and increased awareness about Special Olympics in the community.

2015-16 Buddies

Caleigh Sidebottom

Caleigh has participated in several Special Olympic events, such as bowling, bocce, soccer, track/field and a baseball skills competition. Caleigh has received numerous gold, silver and bronze medals for these events.

Calvin’s favorite sports are swimming, running and skating. He is on the East Mecklenburg track team.

Davis competes in soccer, swimming, basketball and track and field. He has competed in the State Games for soccer, basketball and track and field and says he loves spring games the best!

Jeffrey Long, Jr.

Jeffrey says the first time his softball team (the Eagles) went to Raleigh for the state games, it was the happiest moment of his life!

Nathan Woolard

Nathan’s most memorable moment was during track and field day. Nathan came home beaming from ear-to-ear because he had some so many gold medals which was the first time he felt really successful in his life in sports.

Matthew loves all of his friends in Special Olympics and loves running non-stop with his buddies at the games in the spring at Charlotte Country Day School. He loves to cheer on everyone!
