The Checkers are getting their leading scorer back, as the Hurricanes have assigned Andrew Poturalski to Charlotte. In an additional move, Carolina has recalled Sergey Tolchinsky.

Poturalski, the 23-year-old rookie, made his NHL debut in Minnesota on April 4, then appeared in the Hurricanes' next contest at home against the New York Islanders.

Poturalski returns to Charlotte with 48 points in 69 games under his belt, good for the team lead and the third-highest total among AHL rookies. The native New Yorker already has the second-highest point total by a rookie in franchise history, trailing only Zac Dalpe’s 57-point campaign in 2010-11.

To fill Poturalski’s spot, the Hurricanes have turned to Tolchinsky. This marks the first NHL recall of the season for the Russian winger, who has tallied 22 points (7g, 15a) in 57 games in his second pro season. Tolchinsky made his NHL debut last season, skating in two games with the Hurricanes and picking up an assist.

The Hurricanes have two games remaining on their schedule, Saturday at home and Sunday on the road, while the Checkers play twice this weekend at home before heading on the road for their final three contests.
