Elias Lindholm
The Carolina Hurricanes have made a significant switch with the Checkers.

Joining Charlotte for its upcoming game against the Chicago Wolves on Thursday, its first home game since Oct. 20, will be forward Elias Lindholm – the Hurricanes’ fifth overall pick in the most recent NHL Entry draft. Meanwhile, Chris Terry, who is tied for the Checkers’ lead with 10 points, heads to Carolina to take his place.

Lindholm, 18, will immediately become the youngest player for the Checkers, both on the current team and in team history, trailing defenseman Keegan Lowe and Swedish World Junior teammate Victor Rask, both 20. Lindholm has played in 10 of Carolina’s 14 games, scoring one goal and one assist, having missed five games due to an upper-body concern between Oct. 13-24.

Excluding recent veteran addition Rick DiPietro (first overall in 2000), Lindholm will also be the highest-drafted player to play for Charlotte.

After taking most of four professional seasons to earn his first recall to the NHL, Terry, 24, was one of the final cuts from this year’s training camp and is now the first forward to earn a recall, excluding Manny Malhotra, who the team signed to a new contract last week. Terry began the season with points in each of his first nine games, setting a new personal record.

The Hurricanes’ sixth-round draft pick in 2007, Terry is the Checkers’ all-time leader with 234 games played, 81 goals, 112 assists and 193 points.
